Basic Meal Prep
Welcome to Lesson 20! Yeah!
We are now in our final module! Today we talk about why Fitness Frenzy was created in the first place, Meal Prepping! You’re in for a real treat!
tl;dr - Meal Prepping is foundational to Fitness Frenzy. If you want to all the stress away from eating while still maintaining course, meal prep is the answer. It can save your money, your physique, and mental health. The name of the game is plan, prepare, and forget - no more mental battles. Just eat what you’ve prepared and you’re on your way to whatever goals you set out! Meal Prepping is a proactive approach and will serve you well.
The first reason I created Fitness Frenzy is that I wanted to meal prep with whole, uncooked, single-ingredient foods. Unfortunately, the other apps out there did not meet my expectations. My favorite example is raw, uncooked chicken breast - in My Fitness Pal, you type that in and you get 1000 different results - why? It was actually easier for me to create my own google-sheets ingredient database and prep with those! But as someone who likes to overengineer solutions - I took that google-sheets idea to its extreme and built Fitness Frenzy! So there you go, that’s FF’s origin story! Yay!
I think it’s important to explain what meal prep is in the context of Fitness Frenzy. Remember when we calculated our macros in lesson 11? We calculated our macros to hit a specific goal, weight loss, weight gain, or weight maintenance. Since then we’ve been trying to eat and log food that got us in the ballpark of our individual macros. But what if we didn’t want to have to coordinate what we ate each time we felt hungry? What if we didn’t have to flirt with making naughty eating decisions? What if there was some super magical way to plan out our food to hit our macros. We could then cook and prep those meals for a set number of days. If we did that, we wouldn’t have to worry about what to eat! As long as we ate what we planned and prepped we would know with confidence we are doing the right thing! Well, in terms of Fitness Frenzy - that is exactly what meal prepping is! Meal prepping is a proactive approach to systematically managing our nutritional health.
Over the next couple of days we will be learning how to plan and prep our meals. By the end, we should have come up with 3 days worth of prepped food. Food that you chose, food that you can manage and get excited for, food that we know will get us to where we are going. I’m excited for us to delve into this artistic world of meal prep. But that’s enough for today - tomorrow we learn one last skill before we start putting all of the puzzle pieces together!
