Lesson 7

Stay Hydrated!

Welcome to Lesson 7! Yeah!

I decided to include this lesson when I had a day of rather intense workouts and the following day I felt like a truck hit me. Ya boi was dehydrated.

tl;dr - Our body is made up of up to 60% water. We can survive without food for a long time, however, we cannot live without water. Drinking water can help fight hunger and make you feel better in general.

Most of us are not as hydrated as we probably should be. Water is vitally important to our survival and overall health. In fact, we are made mostly of water. When we drink enough water, our body is allowed to wash out all of our toxins and make sure everything is running smoothly. Think of drinking water as a daily oil change. Unfortunately, most of us are underhydrated, so why not, sip on some water! Also a few other fun tips - hunger and thirst can actually feel very similar. As a neat little experiment: next time you hungry, drink a glass of water wait 5 min and see how you feel, you may have just been thirsty. Also if you are feeling run down, maybe have a headache - you may also be dehydrated, especially if this follows exercise. Take a drink of water and add some sugar-free electrolytes (salt). Lastly, if you start eating more whole single-ingredient, non-processed foods - you might find yourself becoming more dehydrated more often. The reason being processed food often contains a load of sodium (salt) for preservation. Despite what you might think, your body NEEDS salt to function. The is especially true for active people. The moral of the story, listen to your body. If something doesn’t feel right, try water, if it persists, maybe add electrolytes, if that doesn’t fix it, see a doctor. Stay hydrated my friends.
